Delmhorst JX-20 Overview

The Delmhorst JX-20 is a professional pin-type moisture meter built specifically around wood measurement. It is aimed at flooring installers, inspectors, woodworkers, cabinet and furniture manufacturers, lumber users and other professionals who need a direct moisture reading from a defined point in the material.

Unlike pinless meters that scan a wider area without penetrating the surface, the JX-20 uses contact pins. This makes it particularly useful when a user wants to investigate a specific board, edge or suspect location and is comfortable with the small marks left by the pins.

6–60% Wood Moisture Range

Delmhorst specifies a wood moisture range of 6% to 60% on its Douglas Fir calibration. That range covers the low moisture levels relevant to conditioned hardwood flooring and cabinet work while also extending far enough for wetter lumber and drying applications.

For flooring work, the useful part of the range is often at the lower end. Checking multiple boards before installation can help identify material that differs substantially from the rest of the batch rather than relying on one isolated reading.

72 Wood Species and Temperature Correction

The JX-20 includes corrections for 72 wood species. Species correction matters because electrical-resistance pin meters respond differently to different wood species, so using the correct setting can improve the usefulness of the displayed moisture percentage.

The meter also provides wood-temperature correction from 0°F to 255°F. This is useful when lumber or flooring is being checked outside normal room temperature, where temperature can influence resistance-based moisture readings.

Statistics for Repeated Flooring Checks

Up to 100 readings can be saved in the meter and reviewed as high, low, average and standard deviation statistics. This is useful when checking a delivery of hardwood flooring or a group of boards because the installer can evaluate the overall spread rather than remembering individual measurements.

A user-selectable alarm can also provide immediate feedback when a reading exceeds a chosen moisture-content threshold, while the large display and auto backlight help on dim jobsites.

External Electrodes and Professional Use

The JX-20 is compatible with Delmhorst external electrodes, allowing the basic meter to be expanded for deeper or more specialized measurements. The standard meter itself remains straightforward, using built-in pins and two AA batteries.
