iRobot Roomba j9+ Overview

The Roomba j9+ is a high-end vacuum-only model for users who care more about carpet pickup, pet hair and smart navigation than mopping. It builds on the j7 concept with stronger suction, Dirt Detective and a self-emptying Clean Base included in the package.

Although newer iRobot models now use LiDAR, the j9+ remains attractive for homes where camera-based object recognition and strong dry vacuuming are more important than wet cleaning.

Dirt Detective and Smart Mapping

Dirt Detective uses past cleaning history to prioritize the rooms that become dirty fastest and can adjust suction and cleaning passes accordingly.

Smart mapping allows room-specific cleaning, Clean Zones, Keep Out Zones and voice commands through Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.

Self-Emptying Clean Base

The included Clean Base automatically transfers debris from the robot into an enclosed bag. iRobot states that the bag can hold up to 60 days of debris under its test conditions.

This makes the j9+ a strong fit for frequent vacuuming schedules, particularly in homes with pets that quickly fill a conventional onboard bin.

Who Should Choose the Roomba j9+?

Choose the j9+ if you want a premium vacuum-only Roomba with pet-hair focus, automatic emptying and advanced visual obstacle recognition.

If mopping is important, the Combo j9+ or current Plus 505/507 are better fits. If value matters more than maximum dry pickup, the standard j7 can cover many of the same smart-navigation tasks for less.

The j9+ remains one of iRobot’s more compelling legacy models for carpet and pet-hair vacuuming because its feature set is focused rather than overloaded. The main question is price: it makes the most sense when discounted enough to compete with newer self-emptying LiDAR vacuums.
